From Really Bad Studio
Joinlings
A communication and public‑speaking coach
Bite-size daily lessons to help you speak with calm, clarity and confidence. Sprue, your practice partner, grows a new working piece every time you finish one.
Something in the box is wiggling.
Meet your practice partner
This is Sprue
Sprue is a designer-toy friend made of puzzle pieces that snap off a model-kit frame. It starts out as a little head on two feet with a lot of curiosity.
It's there to practise speaking with you. It shows you a small move, listens while you try it, and tells you one kind thing it noticed. What you practise turns into a real part of it.
Go on, give it a tap. It likes that.
What's in the box
What you'll get
Joinlings isn't out yet. This is what we're building, and what you'll get when it's ready.
-
A The skills
- Presence and calm
- Clarity
- Storytelling
- Listening
- Speaking to a room
-
B Lessons of 30 seconds to 3 minutes
Sprue shows you a move, you try it out loud (or type it), and Sprue gives you kind, specific feedback. No grades, no scores.
Walk through a lesson -
C Who it's for
Nervous speakers, students with a presentation, job interviews, a toast for a friend, a pitch at work. It's gentle practice, not therapy, and you choose how far to push.
-
D Your voice stays on your device
We're building it so your practice is heard on your phone and never uploaded or used to train anything.
How we'll prove it -
E A life-skills school, Communication first
Joinlings is for the everyday skills nobody really sits you down and teaches. Communication is the first class, and we're getting it right before we add more.
Where it's headed
How a lesson works
Lesson 1 Put your point first
1 Sprue shows you
Every lesson starts with Sprue having a go. It tries two quick versions of the same thing that differ in just one way, then asks which one was easier to follow.
2 You try
Then it's your turn, for half a minute or so. You know exactly what you're trying before you start. Prefer to type it? That counts too.
3 Sprue reflects
Sprue tells you one thing it noticed and asks whether that's what you meant. It never grades you, and if it couldn't hear something clearly it says so.
“There was a longer pause here. Was it the one you planned?”
4 A piece snaps in
Finish the lesson and the next piece twists off the frame and clicks into Sprue. This one is a listening ear. Every part it gains does something, so you can see what you've practised together.
Class 1
Communication
The first class is a kind, patient coach for public speaking and everyday conversation. Sprue is the practice partner that never judges you and never gets tired of hearing it one more time.
- Staying calm
- Using your voice
- Getting to the point
- Telling a story
- Listening
- Thinking on your feet
- Making a fair case
- Speaking to a room
Some of the practice moments we're writing: a toast for a friend, an interview answer, a class presentation, a pitch, a hard conversation.
Your voice stays on your device
We're building Joinlings so your practice is heard on your phone and never uploaded or used to train anything. Before anyone uses it, we'll show how we tested that.
How your Joinling grows
It grows up in pieces
Every few lessons Sprue comes apart and clicks back together as its next stage. Later stages bring real mechanisms: jointed elbows, gears that turn in its ears while it thinks, an antenna, little lights.
Tap a stage to see it.
Where it's headed
More classes later
We're starting with communication and getting it right before anything else. After that we'd like Joinlings to cover more of the everyday skills nobody really sits you down and teaches. Sprue is the first Joinling, and we'd love for it to have some friends eventually.
Whatever you learn, missing a day never hurts your Joinling. There are no streaks to lose and no battles, and nothing wilts while you're away. Sprue is just pleased to see you.
Where we are
We're building it
Joinlings isn't out yet. Sprue is a working prototype in our studio (that's it on this page, running live in your browser), and we're writing the first Communication lessons now. There's nothing to download or buy yet.
